The Arkansas Studies Curriculum

 

The Creators

The Arkansas Studies Curriculum has been developed through collaboration between the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, the Central Arkansas Library System, and Archeological Assessments’s Arkansas Stories Project.  Invaluable support for this effort was provided by the Bridge Fund of the Arkansas Community Foundation.

The following people have been directly responsible for the authoring and illustrating of all of the Arkansas Studies Curriculum products.

W. J. Bennett, Jr. received a B. A. in History from Duke University (1962), Durham, North Carolina, and  B. D.(1965) and Ph. D. (1968) degrees from Drew University, Madison, New Jersey.  As part of the Archeological Assessments, Inc. (AAI) research team, Dr. Bennett has over thirty years of experience directing archeological and historical projects in Arkansas.

R. F. Daniel graduated from Calhoun Community College in Huntsville, Alabama, with an Associates of Science in General Education in 2002.  From 2002-2005 he attended the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, majoring in illustration with a minor in writing.  He received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree, Summa Cum Laude, in 2005.


Dianne Everman is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma (B. A. and M. A. In History), completed graduate work in History at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and received a Ph. D. in History (1997) from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland.  Dr. Everman’s professional experience includes extensive participation in a wide variety of Near Eastern and Mediterranean archeological projects as well work on numerous local, state, and national research projects in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

William H. Isenberger is a graduate of Missouri State University with a B. S. in Geography (1982) with additional graduate study in cadastral survey and mapping at Missouri State University and the University of Missouri, Rolla.  As the principal cartographer and Geographic Information System specialist for Archeological Assessments, Inc. (AAI), Mr. Isenberger has over twenty years of experience in the archeology and history of Arkansas.

Leslie Przybylek is a summa cum laude graduate of Gettysburg College in Art and Art History.  She received a M. A. Degree from the University of Deleware (1995) in Art History with an emphasis on American Art and Public Sculpture.  Ms. Przybylek has served as curator for the Museum of Fort Smith History.
 

Charley Sandage holds a BSE (Social Studies) degree from Henderson State College, Arkadelphia, as well as a M. A. (Rhetoric and Public Address) and Ed. D. (1978) from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas.  His professional career has included service as both a classroom teacher and school administrator in Arkansas middle and high schools and as a member of the faculty of Ozarka Technical College and Arkansas State University-Beebee.  In addition, he has served as a producer for the Arkansas Educational Television Network and as Assistant to the Director for Programs for the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Department.
