“I can tell you stories, if you gather near...” is an invitation few can decline.  This 47 page brightly colored volume features full, two page layout illustrations that provide a visual reference for many of the songs and stories found in Arkansas Stories for Young Children.  The central characters are Big Bear and his new friends, Robert, Mary, and Dave who have a chance encounter while the three friends are out on a berry-picking adventure.  During their time together Big Bear fascinates the three with the stories of Arkansas that his family has told him; about the time when it was really, really cold, and the coming of the first humans as well as those who have come more recently.  A companion piece with Arkansas Stories for Young Children and “Where did we come from, Grandpa?” this volume provides young children with an entertaining and meaningful introduction to the concept of historical change.
